Edge sealing hot melt adhesive selection Edge sealing hot melt adhesive is a class of adhesive dedicated to man-made panel edge sealing, it is a solvent-free thermoplastic adhesive. 

Hot melt adhesive is heated to a certain temperature, that is, from the solid state into a molten state when coated to the surface of the panel substrate or edging material, cooling into a solid state, the edging material and the substrate bonded together. 

The selection and use of edge banding hot melt adhesive must pay attention to the following aspects:

1 The base material of edge banding hot melt adhesive Edge banding hot melt adhesive can be divided into three categories according to different base materials.

 (1) EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate copolymerization resin) base material hot melt adhesive, this kind of hot melt adhesive can be divided into filler and no filler two categories. The use of EVA as a base material is the common production technology of edge sealing hot melt adhesive, its main limitation is poor heat resistance. With EVA hot melt adhesive edge sealing of panel furniture can not be higher than 120 ℃ ambient temperature; 

 (2) POLYAMIDE (polyamide) base hot melt adhesive, this hot melt adhesive has very good heat resistance and fast curing characteristics, the main disadvantage is expensive.

 (3) HMPU (polyurethane) based hot melt adhesive, it is a better performance of a class of hot melt adhesive, is a high-quality plate edging guarantee. It is expensive and needs special use method. 

 2 Viscosity of edge banding hot melt adhesive The viscosity of edge banding hot melt adhesive does not directly reflect the performance of the adhesive. Generally speaking, the higher the viscosity of edge banding hot melt adhesive is, the better its initial adhesive strength is, but the worse its coating performance is. Low viscosity hot melt adhesive coating amount is smaller, better wetting performance. Some hot melt adhesives with low viscosity and fast curing speed may also have high initial tack strength.

3 Density of edge banding hot melt adhesive The density of edge sealing hot melt adhesive is generally 0.95-1.6g/cm³, and the size of its density depends on the amount of filler (the more filler, the higher density). Since a certain gluing area is required when sealing the edge of the sheet, the amount of glue applied per unit length of the non-filler hot melt adhesive with low density is less than that of the filler hot melt adhesive. And because of the better bonding performance of the filler-free hot melt adhesive, to achieve the same sealing effect, the use of filler-free hot melt adhesive is less than the filler hot melt adhesive is possible. In order to reduce the amount of adhesive applied, the edge banding machine must have a good adhesive application system.
