Cleanability and stain resistance
These two properties are influenced by the cross-section shape of the fibers and the subsequent stain-resistant treatment. The strength and hardness of the fiber itself have little effect on the washability and stain resistance.
Melting point and elasticity
Nylon 6 has a melting point of 220°C, while Nylon 66 has a melting point of 260°C. However, for the temperature conditions of carpet use, the melting point of Nylon 6 is 260°C. However, this is not a difference for the temperature conditions of carpet use. The lower melting point gives Nylon 6 better resilience, fatigue resistance and thermal stability than Nylon 66.
Colorfastness
Color fastness is not a characteristic of nylon; it is the dyes in the nylon, not the nylon itself, that fade when exposed to light.
Abrasion and Dust Resistance
Clemson University conducted a two-and-a-half-year experiment with Zeftron 500 nylon 6 and Antron XL nylon 66 carpeting at Tampa International Airport. The carpet was subjected to high traffic conditions and the results showed that BASF Zeftron 500 nylon had slightly better color retention and pile abrasion resistance than Antron XL. There was no difference in dust resistance between the two yarns.
